Jim Bergmann is an industry leader, technical expert, and innovator in heating and cooling technology. He founded measureQuick in 2015, now the leading diagnostic and commissioning app in the HVAC industry with over 100,000 users in the USA. Before this, he revitalized the HVAC program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center during his 12-year tenure as an instructor, transforming it into a nationally recognized platform.

 Bergmann’s commitment to education includes tailoring methods for diverse student populations, including those from disadvantaged communities. He was one of the founders of TruTech Tools, a major supplier in the HVAC industry, and has been awarded several patents in HVAC technology.

He has served on national councils, developed inclusive curricula, and integrated digital tools to align training with industry standards. Bergmann’s collaborative approach with contractors, educators, and governing bodies ensures measureQuick remains a transformative force in the HVAC sector.

Rectorseal/DustFree: The Science of Filtration

Presenter: John Ellis, Owner, Dynamic Air Consulting

We all know that every HVAC system should have some type of filter in place.

But did you know that not all filters are created equal?

In this session, we will take a closer look at:

1) How filters are designed into a system;
2) The six different filtration methods; and
3) How a filter is designed to meet ASHRAE 52.2 requirements.

As the owner of Dynamic Air Consulting, John works with clients on complex indoor air quality issues; and provides in-field coaching to HVAC professionals during the discovery, design, and implementation of IAQ solutions.

With more than 40 years in the HVAC industry, John has spent time in several industry unions, including those for sheetmetal workers, pipefitters, and the International Union of Operating Engineers.

John has also served as Project Manager on large projects at hotels, prisons, water treatment plants, and hospitals. John’s passion for IAQ led him to a year-long pilot study for the South Coast Air Quality Management District installing and testing High Performance Filtration for schools.

Before John started his consulting company, he owned and operated So Cal Air Dynamics, a performance-based HVAC contracting company. Using a unique blend of building science and forensics, and mechanical science, his company helped create clean, healthy, indoor environments for clients with severe respiratory conditions and compromised immune systems.

During his career, John has held numerous certifications including: Building Science; Indoor Air Quality, EPA Renovator; Residential and Commercial Air Balance; Commercial System Performance; Economizer Specialist; Level 1 Thermographer; and Quality Insulation Installation. John has also been active in trade organizations such as: National Comfort Institute (NCI); the Institute of Heating & Air Conditioning Industries (IHACI); and the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA).

Currently, John is an Instructor for Daikin/Amana/Goodman teaching the Indoor Air Quality Principles Workshop through the HVAC Learning Campus. He also serves as a Business Development Manager and Field Service Trainer for The New Flat Rate, providing onsite coaching to HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies. Additionally, John has been appointed Product Ambassador for Dust Free. John enjoys collaborating on industry articles and podcasts, and presenting sessions at conferences, tradeshows, and industry events. Recently, John was voted one of the Top 25 Most Influential HVACR Instructors / Trainers for 2024.

A self-described ‘Geek of all things HVAC and indoor comfort’, Eric’s approach to life is “be curious”. He joined the HVAC industry in 2004 as a residential service technician, and quickly learned there was a lot more to keeping people comfortable and healthy than met the eye. Since then, he has held many positions, and now enjoys the role of Industry Engagement Manager for TruTech Tools, Ltd., where he helps to fulfill their vision of “Helping Technicians Create Better Environments for People”. Eric holds HVAC educator certifications from HVAC Excellence, sits on the Executive Committee of RSES, is a co-host of the Building HVAC Science podcast, and contributes to the HVAC/R and Building Performance industries in many other ways.
